There are so many soft tissue fillers available on the market these days, that if you’re considering the wildly popular treatment, it can be very overwhelming to decide on a product for you. There are popular fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, but going with the most popular option isn’t automatically your best bet. Fillers are experiencing such a boom, that manufacturers have niche products on the market to suit many different needs. Radiesse has been around for quite a while, but it still has not reached the popularity of some other fillers. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with Radiesse, it’s just different. So what makes Radiesse different from other fillers?

A Different Formula

While most of the popular filler formulas are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in the body, Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxyalpatite (CaHA) microspheres. Calcium hydroxylapatite, though also naturally-occurring, lasts longer than hyaluronic acid when injected, and creates a “lattice” framework under the skin. Collagen then develops around this lattice for a more natural, youthful appearance.

Facial Contouring

Because Radiesse forms a structure beneath the skin, the product can be used for subtle facial contouring. Facial volume loss can cause sagging and loss of definition in the face, and Radiesse injected into these areas can help to sculpt the face and counteract these effects.

Smooths Wrinkles & Aging Skin

As with any facial filler, Radiesse can be used to treat deep “static” wrinkles (not caused by facial movement) in the face, such as the nasolabial folds (lines that run from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines that extend down from the corners of the mouth). Radiesse can fill in these lines to help patients look fresher, more awake and energetic, and of course, more youthful. Radiesse can also help the skin achieve a smoother look overall.

Can Be Used for Augmentation

Facial volume loss is a major sign of aging, and plastic surgeons have begun to realize just how important volume is to retaining youth. Radiesse can be used to subtly replace facial volume, particularly in the cheek area. In fact, Radiesse can be used as an alternative to a mid-face lift for patients who would like a non-surgical treatment. Elevating and augmenting the cheeks can help create the same results of a mid-face lift, but on a temporary basis.

Long-Lasting Results

While Radiesse is temporary, the formula lasts much longer than popular HA fillers. HA fillers last about 6 months or so on average, while Radiesse lasts about four times as long—many patients report results from the procedure even two years following treatment. Once Radiesse wears off, as with any other filler, the procedure can be repeated.

Is Radiesse Right For You?

Choosing the right filler for your needs can be surprisingly difficult, and it’s best to get the help of an expert plastic surgeon when choosing any kind of treatment. A consultation with a plastic surgeon can be beneficial, as you will get an assessment and personalized advice, an opportunity to discuss your goals, and the ability to get answers to your questions from a trustworthy authority.

Finding the Right Provider

Not sure where to start when choosing a provider? It is best to turn to a board certified facial plastic surgeon with extensive experience in administering fillers and anti-aging treatments. Injectable filler treatments require a surprising amount of skill to achieve beautiful and long-lasting results, so never choose a provider you don’t trust.
