How Microneedling is Performed
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves poking micro channels into the skin using a specialized needling pen. There is little to no discomfort associated with the procedure, as the skin is properly numbed with a strong topical numbing agent.
This treatment is usually done with either hyaluronic acid or platelet-rich plasma that is needled directly into the top layer of skin. This generates localized inflammation and stimulates the skin’s natural healing process.
The Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling is a great option for improving the appearance of acne scars, large pores, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles by inducing collagen production. By kick starting the healing process, this treatment gives your skin its healthy glow back and leaves it feeling plump and tight, thanks to the surge of collagen and elastin production.
This procedure is also one of the few treatments that can improve the appearance of those pesky fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes – one of the most difficult areas to target due to close proximity to the eye.
Lastly, microneedling is great for those who want to keep their anti-aging treatments as natural as possible. It is a completely autologous, collagen-inducing therapy and there is nothing artificial being injected into the skin. To put it simply, this treatment gives your skin all the ingredients it needs to allow it to do all the repairing work by itself. A series of treatments is recommended for best outcomes.
“THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS EXCELLENT”
I must tell you that the overall experience was excellent. The surgery was successful but the care and service of your staff was exceptional. I always dread going to a doctor’s office, but in this situation that was not the case. Because of you and your staff each visit was a pleasant experience and fun!

Microneedling can target several face-related issues such as:
- Age or sun spots
- Scars resulting from acne
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Large pores
- Reduced elasticity of skin
- Uneven skin tone
- Other facial scars
Apart from addressing these facial issues, microneedling may also be effective in treating stretch marks found in other regions of the body. For example, if you have stretch marks on your abdominal region and/or your thighs, a microneedling treatment in combination with fillers can be effective.
Combining Microneedling and PRP
While a microneedling treatment is quite effective on its own, it does result in minor side effects such as swelling and redness, which may take a few days to go away. It can also necessitate downtime. To greatly speed up the healing process, consider microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma).
Platelet-rich plasma is created using a small amount of the patient’s own blood. The platelets and plasma in the blood are separated out from the red and white blood cells to form PRP. PRP contains a number of growth factors for improved healing.
PRP can penetrate further into the tissues as a result of the microchannels created by microneedling. This allows for its benefits to be even more effective, healing skin from the inside out. As a result, after microneedling with PRP, the duration of downtime and minor side effects is significantly shorter.
Your Microneedling Consultation
Before undergoing a microneedling treatment, you’ll have to consult with Dr. Batniji to determine whether or not you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment.
During your consultation, Dr. Batniji will ask you about your complete medical history and your current health status. You should be completely honest, since this will help to avoid unwanted complications and determine your eligibility for the treatment.
While most medications won’t interfere with the microneedling treatment, you may be asked to refrain from using topical retinoids and ibuprofen before your treatment session.
Typically, people with the following conditions should not undergo microneedling treatments:
- Active acne
- An active skin infection
- Keloid scarring
During your consultation with Dr. Batniji, you can ask any questions you may have. You can also ask about microneedling with PRP as a treatment option.
The downtime associated with this procedure when done with PRP is considered minimal. The average amount of downtime is about three days of redness, mild swelling and pinpoint bruising. Light sloughing of the skin may also be noticed in the days to follow as old skin cells begin to turn over – this exposes the bright, new skin below.
COST OF MICRONEEDLING
The cost of this procedure depends on the amount of treatments you get, the extent of the conditions you are looking to treat with microneedling, and other factors. If you have any questions about the price of this treatment, be sure to ask Dr. Batniji during your consultation.
