PRP Hair Restoration
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration uses a patient’s own blood product to stimulate hair production. It does so by feeding slow or “sleepy” hair follicles with growth factors harvested from PRP.
The blood product is obtained the same day and is separated into specific components using a centrifuge. Only the platelets and plasma are used to inject directly into the areas of concern.
What Are the Benefits of PRP Hair Restoration?
The growth factors found in plasma promote cellular regeneration and improve blood flow to increase delivery of nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles. Think of it as injecting vitamins directly at the source where they are needed.
An additional benefit of this treatment is its very low risk profile due to the fact there is nothing artificial being injected, therefore the risk of an adverse event is minimal. The goal with this treatment is to STOP or SLOW the process of hair loss. This treatment will also increase density of hair follicles and promote longer hair growth cycles.
Who Is a Good Candidate for this Treatment?
The ideal candidate is someone who is experiencing the early stages of hair thinning or hair loss. Minoxidil (Rogaine) and/or finasteride (Propecia) are safe to be used in conjunction with PRP injections. A series of 4-6 treatments is recommended for best results. Sessions are spaced one month apart.
Recovery and Aftercare
There is little downtime and recovery associated with PRP injections. You may experience side effects like swelling, redness, bruising, itching, or pain at the injection sites. These minor side effects are common and typically subside in a few days.
Cost of PRP Hair Restoration
The cost of this treatment depends on a few different factors, like the amount of injections you receive, your geographical location, and more. If you have any questions about the price of PRP injections, be sure to ask Dr. Batniji during your consultation.
