Removing tissue to decrease the size of the nose

HomeRhinoplasty I’m Middle Eastern and I come from a family of oversized noses. While everyone else seems content with their nose, I am not. My nose is large all around, large tip, large nostrils, and wide from the bridge to the base. I would like a total resculpting of my nose. If actual nose tissue is removed to reduce the size of my nose, where is that incision? Would I be able to work the next day? I don’t care if there is a bandage on my nose. A necklift is an excellent option to address laxity of skin in the […]

I am of Persian descent and have a hook to my nose.

HomeRhinoplasty I have a very pronounced hook to my nose which I believe is fairly normal among those of Persian descent. Nevertheless, I do not like it and would like to improve. How much improvement can I expect? The “hook” appearance may be due to a combination of bump along the bridge of the nose and weakness of support to the nasal tip. The bump along the bridge of the nose is typically bony and cartilage in nature. Shaving down these structures will help to address the “hook” appearance. As well, improvement in the position of the nasal tip (if needed) […]

My nasal tip looks crooked.

HomeRhinoplasty My nasal tip looks very crooked. I don’t know if other people notice it but it really bothers me. Is this something that can be fixed with a nose job and how would it be done? A crooked nasal tip can be fixed with a rhinoplasty. There are a variety of causes for a crooked nasal tip. One potential cause for a crooked nasal tip is a deviation of the nasal septum. Straightening the crooked nasal septum can improve upon the appearance of the crooked nasal tip. Another potential cause of crooked nasal tip is deformity of the nasal tip […]

How does a wide nasal bridge affect a nose job?

HomeRhinoplasty What’s the best way to correct a wide nasal bridge? Does this usually require the nasal bone to be broken? This depends. If the nasal bones are short, the nasal bony pyramid wide, and the dorsum is relatively shallow or weak, then augmentation of the dorsum will address the shallow/weak dorsum on profile and give the illusion of a more narrow nasal bridge on frontal view. However, if the nasal bones are of relatively normal length and the dorsum does not require rhinoplasty, then the wide nasal bridge is addressed by osteotomies to re-position the nasal bones. For more information, contact […]

Ethnic rhinoplasty for an African American nose

HomeRhinoplasty I’m an African American living in Southern California and am interested in getting a nose job. I don’t want a “cookie cutter” nose that would be given to someone who’s Caucasian. How do you avoid this? Each ethnic rhinoplasty is performed so that the final result “fits the face.” In other words, I take into consideration your face and consider the nose job to change the overall appearance of the nose so that it is in harmony with your facial features. As a result, each facial plastic surgery is individualized rather than performed in a “cookie cutter” fashion. Finally, your […]

Bandaging after a nose job

HomeRhinoplasty I live in Duarte and am self-conscious about my appearance, which is one reason I am having a rhinoplasty. How large and conspicuous are the bandages for rhinoplasty recovery? I place a small bandage over the bridge of the nose after your rhinoplasty, and leave it in place for one week after surgery. After one week, I remove this bandage. […]

Revision rhinoplasty to fix a wide bridge

HomeRhinoplasty I had a nose job two years ago. It was to repair a broken nose I had as a child. It looks good except that the bridge is too wide. I didn’t think it was too wide at first but now it seems so. Is a full rhinoplasty required to narrow the bridge? If the wide appearance is due to the nasal bone width, then I reposition the nasal bones with osteotomies. If the width is due to the nostrils, then I use nasal base reduction techniques. […]

Addressing thick nasal skin in Hispanic nose job patients

HomeRhinoplasty Are there general things that Hispanic patients want changed about their nose with rhinoplasty? Some of the more common requests I hear from my Hispanic patients who seek rhinoplasty include a desire to refine the appearance of the nasal tip and narrow the nostrils. The nasal tip refinement in Hispanic patients can be a challenge due to the fact that Hispanics typically have thick nasal skin. This thick nasal skin camouflages the cartilage that forms the shape of the nasal tip. In these situations, I may use several options to achieve refinement of the nasal tip, including suturing techniques and […]

Breaking nose to fix a bump

HomeRhinoplasty I have a very small bump on the bridge of my nose. Does removing this mean that my nose has to be broken during my rhinoplasty? Not necessarily. If the bump is small, then the nasal bones may not need to be broken. […]

Septoplasty or rhinoplasty for a septum hole

HomeRhinoplasty I have a hole in my septum. Can this be fixed with rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty refers to surgery to change the appearance of the nose. Septoplasty and repair of septal perforation can be performed at the same time as a rhinoplasty. […]
