In traditional microneedling, several microneedles are inserted into the skin tissues at various depths. These encourage the skin’s natural healing process.

With RF microneedling, once the microneedles are inserted, they emit radiofrequency energy. This encourages further collagen production and the contraction of existing collagen and elastin fibers.

Microneedling is well-tolerated, as a strong topical anesthetic is applied to numb the skin before the procedure.

Superficial skin issues may require one to two microneedling treatment sessions, whereas deeper issues can require three to six sessions. It’s best to space sessions out, allowing about 4 to 6 weeks between them to allow the skin to heal and produce new collagen at a faster rate.

Some improvements, such as increased skin plumpness and brightness, may be noticeable immediately. However, the most significant results are observed over several weeks, as collagen and elastin production continue.

While microneedling is quite effective on its own, it can be even more effective when combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Platelet-rich plasma is created using a small amount of the patient’s own blood. Platelets and plasma are separated from red and white blood cells to form PRP, which contains several growth factors that support improved healing.

Due to the microchannels created by microneedling, PRP can penetrate deeper into the tissues. This makes its benefits even more effective, healing skin from the inside out.

PRP microneedling (also known as plasma microneedling) can be used for skin treatments and for PRP hair restoration, increasing blood flow to the hair follicles. This nourishes the follicles, stimulating hair growth.

Traditional microneedling can cause minor side effects, such as swelling and redness, which may take a few days to resolve. It can also necessitate downtime. Microneedling with PRP, however, significantly accelerates healing after a treatment session, reducing downtime and minor side effects.
