What special care will I have to perform Rhinoplasty?

HomeRhinoplasty I have a nose job scheduled in a few weeks. I was just wondering how I’m going to have care for my nose after surgery? What special care will I have to perform, will I need to clean it and how? During the initial consultation for rhinoplasty, I discuss the postoperative course with my patients. As well, we provide our patients with a printed form of these instructions prior to the surgery. Also, I evaluate our patients the day after surgery to further review these instructions. Our patients can begin showering the day after surgery. I instruct our patients to cleanse […]

Healing Process after Rhinoplasty

HomeRhinoplasty I had a nose job about a week ago. I know it’s still early but the tip of my nose looks especially high or upturned. Will this eventually change? It is still early in the healing process. It takes approximately 6-12 months to see the final result achieved from rhinoplasty. Depending upon the techniques your surgeon used to achieve tip position, the rotation or upturned appearance of the nose may change during the healing process. If your nose remains especially high or upturned after those 6-12 months, there are several techniques I use in revision rhinoplasty to decrease the upturned […]

Skin Care

HomeRhinoplasty Is it normal for the facial skin to be very dry after rhinoplasty? How soon after surgery can I resume my normal skin care routine and use things like masks and exfoliants? Following rhinoplasty, I usually place a dressing, also called a dorsal splint, on the nose for approximately one week. Once I remove this dressing or dorsal splint, the skin of the nose can be rather oily. Therefore, one of the services that we provide complimentary to our patients after I remove this dressing is a glycolic facial by our aesthetician. Using this glycolic facial helps to cleanse the […]

How do you fix a hook nose?

HomeRhinoplasty The term “hook nose” may refer to a bump along the bridge of the nose, also known as a dorsal hump. The dorsal hump may be bony as well as cartilaginous in nature. I remove a dorsal hump by shaving down the bony and cartilaginous portions of the hump. This can be performed through either an external/open rhinoplasty or a closed/endonasal rhinoplasty. While shaving down the bump of the nose, a rhinoplasty surgeon should be aware of the function of the nose and the fact that shaving a big dorsal hump may compromise the function of the nose and […]

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

I am Persian and interested in rhinoplasty. However, I want a result that fits my face and culture. Do you perform ethnic rhinoplasty? Yes. This is an interesting question as this was a significant topic of discussion at our American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Advances in Rhinoplasty meeting in Seattle this year. I perform many rhinoplasty procedures on Middle Eastern, Persian, Armenian and Hispanic patients. We perform maneuvers in surgery to provide a natural result while maintaining one’s ethnicity and culture. The reason this topic is a fascination is because we are seeing blends of ethnicities, facial appearances […]

I have a crooked and long nose, how will a rhinoplasty help repair this?

I have a crooked and long nose, how will a rhinoplasty help repair this? Afterward, will my nose look different from the front and the side? If your nose is crooked, one potential benefit from rhinoplasty is the appearance of a straighter nose from the front. If the nose is long, it may appear long because the nasal tip is pointed downwards and/or is over-projected. There are many techniques I use to make a nose appear shorter on side view and frontal view. However, any of these changes in appearance must take your gender, ethnicity, and overall facial features in consideration. […]
