When can I color my hair after a facelift?
The incisions from a facelift need to heal before you color your hair. This process of healing for the incisions takes approximately 2-4 weeks, so the timing of coloring of your hair is somewhere between 2-4 weeks. After your facelift, I shall follow your progress closely and, once the incisions have healed properly, I shall recommend the timing for coloring of the hair.

HomeGeneral A wide nasal bridge seems fairly common to many ethnicities. How can this be changed?
A wide nasal bridge on frontal view in a patient of ethnicity may be secondary to a “flat” appearance of the bridge of the nose on profile view. One method to address this issue is with augmentation of the bridge or dorsum of the nose with an injectable filler. This provides the illusion of a narrower nasal bridge on frontal view. Another option is rhinoplasty to provide augmentation to the bridge of the nose with cartilage (from either the septum or ear) diced in temporalis […]
HomeGeneral I’ve heard that African Americans tend to have short nasal bones. How does this impact rhinoplasty?
Short nasal bones tend to be less predictable when performing osteotomies. Also, if an African American has a wide bridge of the dorsum, he or she may believe that the bones may need to be “brought in” or “broken” to reposition the bones so that the bones are closer together. The reality is that most African Americans with a wide nose, short nasal bones and flat bridge on profile view may be better off with augmentation of the dorsum or bridge of the nose, […]

I’m African American and considering rhinoplasty. Are there any risks that I should be aware of that are specific to African American patients?

I am from Lebanon and would like to have rhinoplasty. I would like my nose to fit into the normal range (size and shape) of people with my ethnicity. Should I bring in pictures of what I want to look like?
Yes, you can bring in pictures of what you want the nose to look like. As well, I use digital imaging in the office to demonstrate the potential benefits from rhinoplasty. I review these digital images with you at the time of the consultation.

How is ethnic rhinoplasty different from Caucasian rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is different from Caucasian rhinoplasty in that the ethnic patient tends to wish for refinement while at the same time maintain their ethnicity. For example, a Middle Eastern patient with a bump along the bridge of the nose may request refinement of the bump on profile view, but want to avoid the “scooped out” appearance on the bridge of the nose which may give the appearance of an “operated” or un-natural nose.

I’m Asian and want to know how you would suggest changing a bulbous nasal tip and flared nostrils?
Flared nostrils can be addressed with nostril narrowing procedures. Through these procedures, I am able to remove the excess skin of the nostril and hide the incision in the crease between the nostril and the face. To address the bulbous nasal tip, I use suturing techniques to refine the appearance of the native tip cartilages. If the nasal skin is very thick, a tip graft is placed; the tip graft is fashioned from your own cartilage.

Is it true that augmentation is common in African American procedures and what does this entail?
Augmentaion of the African American dorsum or bridge of the nose is not uncommon. The method I choose for augmentation includes using cartilage (from either the septum, ear, or rib) diced and wrapped with temporalis fascia. Temporalis fascia is obtained from the scalp through a very small incision located above the ear.

HomeGeneral Facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons Dr. Rami Batniji, lauded for his natural results (rhinoplasty leads the list) and remarkable patient care, discusses the evolution of eyelid procedures.
UPPER LIDS I am writing a paper for publication that describes my experience with a unique, minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift. I perform this surgery to not only reposition the brows, but also treat hooding of the upper eyelids.
LOWER LIDS Lower eyelid surgery has evolved. Rather than removing the fat from the lower lid, I reposition that fat into the hollowness between the lower eyelid and cheek. I then lift the cheek. This […]
