HomeArticles How would you correct a large or bulbous nasal tip as seen in many Middle Eastern noses?
I address large/bulbous nasal tip in Middle Eastern noses using a graduated approach. First, I like to use suturing techniques to achieve refinement of your nasal tip cartilages. Sometimes this is all that is required for refinement of a Middle Eastern nose. If the nasal skin is very thick and/or the nasal cartilage is very weak, I may need to use soft cartilage from the septum to achieve further refinement. If the nasal skin is very thin, I may need to use tissue […]
HomeArticles What are some characteristics most often seen in ethnic noses that people want changed with rhinoplasty and how are these changes achieved?
The most common requests my patients have when it comes to ethnic rhinoplasty are refinement of the nasal tip and minimizing the appearance of a bump along the bridge of the nose. They wish for these changes to fit their face and avoid the “operated appearance” of a scooped out/ski slope appearance to the bridge of the nose and a nasal tip with sharp edges and irregular definition. The manner in which I address these concerns is through […]
HomeArticles Although I feel rested and youthful, my eyes look tired. What kind of techniques do you use for people like me?
Most of my patients wish to address heaviness or hooding of the upper eyelid. Hooding of the upper eyelid may be due to excess skin of the upper eyelid. If this is the case, then I recommend an upper eyelid lift, also known as an upper blepharoplasty (click here for more information on upper eyelid surgery). Occasionally, the hooding of the upper eyelid may be due to the eyebrows. Over time or for hereditary reasons, the eyebrows may drop […]

When can I color my hair after a facelift?
The incisions from a facelift need to heal before you color your hair. This process of healing for the incisions takes approximately 2-4 weeks, so the timing of coloring of your hair is somewhere between 2-4 weeks. After your facelift, I shall follow your progress closely and, once the incisions have healed properly, I shall recommend the timing for coloring of the hair.

HomeArticles A wide nasal bridge seems fairly common to many ethnicities. How can this be changed?
A wide nasal bridge on frontal view in a patient of ethnicity may be secondary to a “flat” appearance of the bridge of the nose on profile view. One method to address this issue is with augmentation of the bridge or dorsum of the nose with an injectable filler. This provides the illusion of a narrower nasal bridge on frontal view. Another option is rhinoplasty to provide augmentation to the bridge of the nose with cartilage (from either the septum or ear) diced in temporalis […]
HomeArticles I’ve heard that African Americans tend to have short nasal bones. How does this impact rhinoplasty?
Short nasal bones tend to be less predictable when performing osteotomies. Also, if an African American has a wide bridge of the dorsum, he or she may believe that the bones may need to be “brought in” or “broken” to reposition the bones so that the bones are closer together. The reality is that most African Americans with a wide nose, short nasal bones and flat bridge on profile view may be better off with augmentation of the dorsum or bridge of the nose, […]

I am from Lebanon and would like to have rhinoplasty. I would like my nose to fit into the normal range (size and shape) of people with my ethnicity. Should I bring in pictures of what I want to look like?
Yes, you can bring in pictures of what you want the nose to look like. As well, I use digital imaging in the office to demonstrate the potential benefits from rhinoplasty. I review these digital images with you at the time of the consultation.

How is ethnic rhinoplasty different from Caucasian rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is different from Caucasian rhinoplasty in that the ethnic patient tends to wish for refinement while at the same time maintain their ethnicity. For example, a Middle Eastern patient with a bump along the bridge of the nose may request refinement of the bump on profile view, but want to avoid the “scooped out” appearance on the bridge of the nose which may give the appearance of an “operated” or un-natural nose.
