Juvéderm® Voluma® is a product that is available in Europe, Canada and Australia and is currently going through the approval process with the FDA. We anticipate availability of this product in the near future. Dr. Rami Batniji has been involved with this product as a member of the Advisory Board for Allergan and he has reviewed the medical literature as it relates to this product. Juvéderm® Voluma® treatments are for patients who have noticed a loss of volume in their cheeks. Often this loss of fullness in certain facial features is a result of age or weight loss. It may also be an inherited trait, but not necessarily one a patient would like to carry on with. Candidates who undergo a course of Voluma® treatments can experience fuller, softer cheeks, higher cheekbones, and an overall lifting of sagging cheeks. The overall refreshed revolumization of the face is a signifier of youthful vitality.
Juvéderm® Voluma® is a hyaluronic acid volumizer that is injected into facial contours. Hyaluronic acid is a safe-to-use, naturally occurring substance in the human body which adds volume and hydration to the skin. Following the injections, patients will be able to observe a noticeable restoration of fullness to their face immediately. The quick procedure requires no anesthesia, allowing patients to return to work or other normal routines right away.
Dr. Batniji Presents Juverderm Voluma XC on Good Day LA
How does Voluma® work to rejuvenate the face?
A youthful face is marked by a heart-shaped appearance which is wider at the forehead and tapers down to the chin. As the face ages, fat travels from higher areas, such as the cheek bones, to the jaw and neck. The result is a reverse in the facial triangle and a squared jawline which contributes to an older, heavier look.
Juvéderm® Voluma® works to restore the heart shape of the face and add fullness to sunken cheeks. Volume is added to sagging areas in the lower face, smoothing out the skin and lifting the cheek tissues for a youthful appearance.
How is the procedure performed?
The Voluma® gel substance is injected by Dr. Batniji with a fine needle beneath the skin after the site has been cleaned. The total time for a Voluma® injection procedure is between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated and the extent to which they need to be filled.
Are Voluma® injections painful?
Little discomfort is associated with injectable fillers when performed by a trained physician. Voluma® in particular is designed to be smoother than other hyaluronic acid volumizers for easier injection and more natural looking results. Local anesthetic can be used to ensure comfort for patients if necessary. Juvéderm® Voluma® also has the added advantage of being associated with fewer incidences of nodule and granuloma formation, product migration, and allergic reaction.
Some swelling, redness, and bruising may temporarily occur following treatment. These side-effects typically subside within two days.
How long does Voluma® last?
The results of Voluma® are long lasting. Treatments have been shown to continue for up to 18 months with pleasing results. In fact, a clinical study performed on Juvéderm® Voluma® showed that all study participants rated their experience with the product as positive when questioned between 6 and 18 months after treatment. Increased self-esteem was frequently reported following the use of Voluma®.
What risks are linked to Juvéderm® Voluma®?
Some redness, swelling, and bruising are common following a Voluma® injection. While most occurrences of these side effects subside within 48 hours, some instances can last up to a week. Additional side effects which are rare, but necessary to be aware of, are nodules at the treatment site, discoloration of the skin, poor efficiency, necroses in the glabellar region, abbesses, granulomas, and hypersensitivity to the hyaluronic acid. Tell Dr. Batniji if you experience any severe reactions or if bruising, swelling, or redness persists for longer than a week.
