Key Takeaways of the Page
Juvéderm® Voluma® is an FDA-approved treatment for loss of cheek volume. Often, this loss of fullness in the cheeks is the result of age or weight loss. It may also be an inherited trait, but not necessarily one a patient would like to carry on with.
As a member of the Advisory Board for Allergan, Dr. Rami Batniji has a deep understanding of Voluma® and its benefits. Candidates who undergo Voluma® treatment can experience fuller and softer cheeks, higher cheekbones, and an overall lifting of sagging cheeks. These changes can make patients look more youthful and refreshed.
Juvéderm® Voluma® is a hyaluronic acid volumizer that is injected into facial contours. Hyaluronic acid is a safe-to-use, naturally occurring substance in the human body that adds volume and hydration to the skin.
Immediately following injections, patients observe a noticeable restoration of fullness to their face. This quick procedure requires no downtime, allowing patients to return to work or other normal routines right away.
How Does Voluma® Work to Rejuvenate the Face?
A youthful face is marked by a heart-shaped appearance, which is wider at the forehead and tapers down to the chin. As the face ages, fat travels from higher areas such as the cheekbones to the jaw and neck. The result is a reverse in the facial triangle and a squared jawline, contributing to an older, heavier look.
Juvéderm® Voluma® works to restore the heart shape of the face and add fullness to sunken cheeks. The hyaluronic acid in this filler bonds with water molecules in the tissues, creating instant volume in sagging areas of the midface. This smooths out the skin and lifts the cheek tissues for a youthful appearance.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
The Voluma® gel filler is injected by Dr. Batniji, by our highly skilled nurse practitioner Ashley Lankford, or by our experienced physician assistant Charlotte Bader. After the site has been cleaned, a fine needle is inserted beneath the skin, and then the product is deposited.
The total time for a Voluma® injection procedure is between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated and the extent to which they need to be filled.
Are Voluma® Injections Painful?
Little discomfort is associated with injectable fillers when administered by a trained expert. Local anesthetic can be used to ensure comfort for patients if necessary.
Voluma® in particular is designed to be smoother than other hyaluronic acid volumizers for easier injection and more natural-looking results. It also has the added advantage of being associated with fewer incidences of nodule and granuloma formation, product migration, and allergic reaction.
Some swelling, redness, and bruising may temporarily occur following treatment. These side effects typically subside within two days.
Which Risks Are Linked to Juvéderm® Voluma®?
Some redness, swelling, and bruising are common following a Voluma® injection. While most occurrences of these side effects subside within 48 hours, some instances can last up to a week.
Rare side effects include nodules at the treatment site, discoloration of the skin, poor efficiency, necroses in the glabellar region, abscesses, granulomas, and hypersensitivity to the hyaluronic acid. Tell Dr. Batniji if you experience any severe reactions or if bruising, swelling, or redness persists for longer than a week.

Frequently Asked Questions
Voluma® FAQs
The price of Voluma® varies based on several factors. Factors that can influence cost include the amount of product injected and the patient's aesthetic needs and goals.
After coming in for a Voluma® treatment session in Newport Beach or Beverly Hills, patients are recommended to apply ice packs to address any swelling, bruising, or tenderness.
Patients are also recommended to avoid extreme heat and to apply sunscreen consistently. This should be maintained for around two weeks after the treatment date.
After Voluma® begins to wear off, patients can return to our Beverly Hills or Newport Beach office for maintenance treatments. This preserves the filler's cheek-volumizing results.
