What is ‘open roof deformity’ in reference to a rhinoplasty?

HomeRhinoplasty What is ‘open roof deformity’ in reference to a rhinoplasty? How can this be avoided or fixed? An open roof deformity is a term used to describe the appearance of the nose after a large dorsal hump reduction. When a large dorsal hump is reduced, the bridge/dorsum of the nose appears flat…this is an open roof deformity. At the time of rhinoplasty, osteotomies will re-position the nasal bones in such a way as to close the open roof and achieve a result that is natural in appearance. Patients who have a large dorsal hump that is reduced and then have osteotomies […]

I am 28 years old and in a profession where looks are everything.

HomeRhinoplasty I am 28 years old and in a profession where looks are everything. I really enjoy looking at before and after pictures of nose jobs and have chosen the type of nose that I would like to get. I know that rhinoplasty must cause black eyes and bruising. How long is it before a nose job looks 100% natural using makeup so I can get back to work? Bruising is best controlled with intervention before, during and after surgery. Before surgery, we make certain that you are not taking medicines that may cause increased bruising, such as products that contain […]

My nose is too narrow and I have finally decided to get rhinoplasty surgery.

HomeRhinoplasty My nose is too narrow and I have finally decided to get rhinoplasty surgery. This was not a quick decision; I have been contemplating surgery for almost two years. What will you use to make my nose wider, some of my own tissue? Does this procedure require incisions outside the nose? I appreciate the fact that you did not make a quick decision to get a rhinoplasty. These decisions should definitely be well thought out. A narrow nose may have both aesthetic and functional issues. There are a variety of techniques that I use to address the narrow nose. These […]

Can Insurance pay for Rhinoplasty?

HomeRhinoplasty Does insurance cover the cost of a rhinoplasty as a result of a horrific car accident? Your insurance MAY cover the cost of a functional septorhinoplasty that is caused by a car accident. During my initial evaluation of you, I record the cause of the injury, the care you received following the accident, and the subsequent results of the injury, specifically a deformity and/or decrease in ability to breathe through the nose. We submit this information and photographs to your insurance company. Ultimately, your insurance company decides whether the procedure is covered by insurance. […]

Using steriods to reduce swelling after Rhinoplasty

HomeRhinoplasty Should I be placed on steroids after rhinoplasty to decrease swelling? I give one steroid dose to rhinoplasty patients during surgery through the IV. This medication helps minimize nausea and swelling after surgery. A recent study published in the medical journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, showed that steroid medication given after surgery may prolong bruising. Therefore, I do not routinely give steroid medication after surgery for swelling. Rather, I recommend ice and head of bed elevation after surgery to minimize swelling. […]

Nasal Tip “bulb” Surgey

The tip of my nose looks like it has a bulb on it and I think I would look better if it were made a bit smaller. Is fixing this nose problem called rhinoplasty? Can my nose be fixed from inside the nose? Yes, fixing your nose is considered a rhinoplasty. You may have wide/broad nasal tip cartilages that cause the “bulb” appearance to the tip of your nose. As well, you may also have thick nasal skin that further accentuates the “bulb” appearance. I use a variety of techniques to refine the appearance of the nasal tip, including stitches to […]

Projection of the Nose

I have an under-projected nasal tip and would like to get this fixed with a nose job. How is this achieved? Projection of the nose refers to the length of the nose as demonstrated on profile view from the face to the nasal tip. Pinocchio is a classic example of an over-projected nose. Projection of the nose must be taken into context with a thorough evaluation of other facial structures, including the lips and chin. During a rhinoplasty, there are several techniques I use to achieve projection in an under-projected nose. For example, suture techniques will achieve both nasal tip refinement […]

Post Rhinoplasty Surgery

HomeRhinoplasty I had a rhinoplasty to fix my nose after it had been broken and was slightly bent. It seemed to fix the bending part but I now seem to have a hump on my nose. Why would this have happened and is there anything that can be done about it now? There are several possible reasons why you may experience a hump on your nose after rhinoplasty. On occasion, swelling can occur along the bridge of the nose which will result in a slight hump. If patients develop a hump on the nose that is due to swelling, steroid injections […]
