Facelift Longevity

A facelift is a major surgical procedure and, as such, most patients expect the results to last longer than a less invasive procedure such as an injectable filler. On average, the results from facelifts can be seen for approximately 10 years. In order for the results to last as long as possible, patients can take precautions for their own skin maintenance.

Preventing Further Sun Damage

Direct skin exposure is damaging to the skin. Immediately following a facelift, the skin is sensitive to light. Patients should avoid direct sunlight and always wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

Making Proper Lifestyle Choices

Patients should treat their face and bodies after the procedure in the same way that they did to prepare for the procedure. Smoking should be avoided as it creates problems with blood circulation which hampers the healing process. One should also consider that the face, along with every other part of the body, reacts to physical changes. Extreme weight gain or weight loss will have a direct effect on the face and possibly mitigate the results of a facelift. Maintaining a healthy body weight with exercise and a balanced diet will have positive results for the face as well.

Consider Having Minor Cosmetic Procedures

A full facelift corrects the deep wrinkling of the forehead and sagging cheeks. It does not necessarily eliminate the fine lines and wrinkles found around the eyes and mouth. Injectable fillers can aid in creating a more youthful appearance and possibly preempt deeper wrinkling from appearing in the future. Laser skin resurfacing is also another option for treating minor wrinkles as it tightens the skin and creates more collagen.

Patients should always remember that despite having a facelift, their face is still changing along with the rest of their body. This is part of the aging process. A patient should treat his or her face the same way he or she would treat any other part of the body in order to stay healthy.
