What type of injectable filler is most commonly used in the lips?
I prefer to use hyaluronic acid filler, such as Juvederm, for the lips. The reason for this is that hyaluronic acid fillers are soft, safe, and very well tolerated in the lips. I combine this with a dental block to make the injection a relatively painless procedure.

HomeArticles I’ve heard that Latisse can change the color of your eyes. Is this true regardless of color?
When used properly, the risk of Latisse changing the color of your eye is extremely rare. In fact, the data regarding potential for eye color change is from studies of prostaglandin-type medication used directly in the eye for treatment of glaucoma. Latisse, which is a product of Allergan, is the same glaucoma medication that Allergan makes under the name Lumigan.
Again, to reiterate, Latisse is NOT to be used in the eye and, when used properly, the risk of eye color change is extremely […]

The males in my family have a genetic “turkey neck” that gets progressively worse with age. Could a neck lift permanently fix this hereditary problem?
A necklift is designed to address excess fat in the neck, neck muscle bands, and neck skin laxity. This surgery is a good option for treating the “turkey neck.” Through this procedure, I am able to perform neck liposuction, tighten the neck muscles, and tighten the skin of the neck to achieve a more youthful neck contour. The incisions are well hidden behind the ear and underneath the chin.

HomeArticles My 15 year-old-daughter has been asking for a nose job. I, however, do not feel that it is appropriate for someone her age to have such a serious cosmetic procedure. What are the risks of a teen having this kind of surgery?
The risks for rhinoplasty include but are not limited to bleeding, infection, risks of anesthesia, nasal obstruction, contour irregularities, rhinnorhea, postnasal drip, need for revision procedure. For your 15 year old daughter, teens in general (and all patients for that matter) it is important for anyone considering rhinoplasty surgery to be of a maturity to understand these risks, […]
HomeArticles I am considering laser resurfacing. I have darker skin type and wondering if I should pre-treat my skin with any product prior to my procedure.
Yes, there is good scientific evidence that supports the use of a pre-treatment regimen prior to your laser resurfacing, particularly if it is a deep (reticular dermis level) resurfacing and if you are darker in complexion. Studies have suggested the benefit of a retinoic acid prior to deep resurfacing may expedite the healing process. The addition of hydroquinone may also be of benefit. A recent study in the medical literature used a regimen that included […]

I am planning a laser resurfacing and looking at your instruction sheet. I notice you recommend the use of Aquaphor. Does it contain petroleum, and if so, is there an alternative because I tend to develop little whiteheads with petroleum-based products.
Some patients may develop milia when using Aquaphor. There is an alternative to Aquaphor that does not contain petroleum. It is called Un-Petroleum Jelly by Alba. It contains beeswax, moisture rich coconut oil and soothing, protective vitamin E. HomeArticles My mother has always had big circles under her eyes. Now that I am a woman in my forties I want to avoid a similar fate! If I get an eyelift, will it help with crows feet or just the bags under my eyes?
A lower lid blepharoplasty (eyelift surgery) addresses the fat pads of the lower lids that cause the appearance of bags underneath the eyes. However, this procedure does not properly address crow’s feet. A better option of the treatment of crow’s feet, include Botox. Other potential treatment options for crow’s feet include skin resurfacing (such as a […]

HomeArticles I am a 42-year-old Asian woman. I have had bags under my eyes for the past 10 years or so, and they seem to be getting worse and worse as I age. The bags have a full appearance to them, not like loose skin. Would lower blepharoplasty work on someone like me?
A blepharoplasty would address the bags under the eyes. The bags are caused by fat pads that become more prominent with time. A blepharoplasty is designed to either remove those fat pads or re-position those fat pads into a crease that sometimes occurs between the lower lids and […]
HomeArticles I would like to get a facelift for my 50th birthday! Can I get my whole face done at one time, or does the rhytidectomy just correct one or two areas at a time, like chin and cheeks or eyes and forehead?
Assuming you are healthy and do not have any medical conditions that would prevent you from undergoing the surgery, then the answer is yes, you could potentially do the “whole” face at one time. Starting from the top, that procedure would entail an endoscopic forehead/brow lift, upper and lower lid blepharoplasty, and a facelift /Necklift. During my consultation with you, we would […]
