What is a Facelift (Rhytidectomy)?
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure performed at our practice that aims to improve the face’s appearance by correcting structural sagging, reducing wrinkles, and restoring a more youthful look rather than simply tightening skin. Dr. Batniji can use a variety of facelift techniques to tailor the procedure to each patient’s needs, and facelift procedures are commonly offered as deep plane, mini, mid, and traditional options, which are detailed below.
A facelift is a surgical procedure designed to address visible signs of aging. A traditional facelift can be performed in a matter of hours, and you can return home the same day. The procedure is usually performed with sedation on an outpatient basis. In some cases, general anesthesia may be used instead. For some patients, the surgical plan may be discussed in relation to traditional facelift surgery, depending on the degree of aging being addressed. The procedure itself begins with general anesthesia, and incisions are made around the ears, along the hairline, and in carefully hidden areas to support the planned lift.
Dr. Batniji then expertly lifts the skin to expose the underlying deep tissues and facial tissues. The extra skin is removed, and the underlying tissues are tightened for longer-lasting results. The skin is then carefully placed back over the tissues. The incisions are closed with the help of sutures. Dr. Batniji may place drainage tubes in the region to drain excess fluid. Bandages are applied to aid in healing.
The outcome of a facelift varies based on several factors, including the surgeon’s skill and the patient’s skin type and anatomy. The goal of the procedure is to provide a more refreshed, youthful appearance to the face.
