The facelift is a surgical procedure designed to improve jowling and loose skin in the lower face and neck. Technically known as rhytidectomy, the surgery removes excess fat, tightens the underlying muscles and re-drapes the skin for a more youthful, refreshed face and neck contour.
Facelifts are appropriate for healthy men and women who have reasonable expectations for improving loose facial skin and jowls. The best results are typically achieved in patients whose skin still retains some degree of elasticity. Facelifts can be performed at just about any age, though the majority of patients are in their forties to their sixties.
Dr. Batniji is one of the leading facelift specialists of Southern California. By specializing in the face, he is uniquely qualified and trained in a variety of facelifting techniques. This allows him to select the most appropriate technique for the individual patient in order to ensure beautiful, long-lasting and natural facelift results. Located in Newport Beach, California, Dr. Batniji is affiliated with several accredited outpatient surgery centers and hospitals throughout Southern California. He most commonly performs surgery at the Newport Beach Surgery Center and Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital.

Yes, patients often combine blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, injectable fillers, and/or chin augmentation with their facelift. Dr. Batniji will meet with you during your consultation to discuss areas of concern, and advise on your individual case.
Your facelift surgery may take several hours to perform and will likely utilize local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. With a traditional facelift, an incision is made which begins at about the temples in the hairline running down and around the ears and ending behind the ears in the lower scalp. Less extensive procedures with smaller incisions may be an option for patients with minimal sagging. Through this incision, Dr. Batniji will separate the skin from the underlying fat and muscle in order to trim excess fat and skin, tighten the muscle and re-drape the skin.
Your facelift surgery may result in some amount of discomfort, numbness of the skin, swelling and bruising. Discomfort can be treated with medication and the bruising will fade after two to three weeks. To minimize swelling, it is best to keep the head elevated during the first few days after your surgery. You will have a bandage applied to your head after your procedure and this will remain in place for up to five days. Ten to fourteen days after your facelift, you will likely feel well enough to return to work and other non-strenuous activities.
