As we age, the appearance of the lips may change. They may thin and begin to sag at the corners, and lines may develop around the mouth and obscure the skin-lip border. Thin lips can also be hereditary. Lip augmentation involves several techniques which can restore fullness and rejuvenate the lips for a more youthful, natural appearance.Juvederm®
Juvederm® is an injectable filler comprised of hyaluronic acid and it can be used in a variety of ways to improve the lip appearance. This filler can plump the lips by increasing volume, enhance the pout of the lips, restore the Cupid's bow, and improve fine lines and creases in and around the lips. Juvederm® may also be used to improve marionette lines, as well as a downward turn to the corners of the mouth which may impart a sad, angry or tired appearance. A dental block or local anesthesia may be used during treatment to maximize the patient's comfort. Results are natural and last an average of four to six months.
Lip Advancement
Lip advancement is a surgical technique for improving thin lips. Results are more permanent than those achieved with injectable fillers. During the surgery, Dr. Batniji excises a strip of skin at the lip border to achieve a fuller lip appearance.
Subnasal Lip Lift
In cases where the upper lip has lengthened over time or due to heredity, making the upper teeth incisors less visible, a subnasal lip lift may be recommended. This procedure shortens the length of the upper lip and increases the show or visible appearance of the upper teeth, especially when smiling. During surgery, Dr. Batniji will remove a small strip of skin from the junction of the nose and upper lip in order to lift the upper lip. Results are very natural with incisions well concealed in the crease between the upper lip and nose.
Botox®
Botox® can be used to improve a downward turn to the corners of the mouth which may make a person appear sad, angry or tired. Botox® is injected in small amounts directly into the muscle responsible for the downward pull. Results are very natural and last an average of four to six months.
Corner of the Mouth Lift
The Corner of the Mouth Lift is a surgical procedure which can provide a more permanent solution to a downward turn to the corner of the mouth than injectable fillers. Local anesthesia is commonly used. During surgery, Dr. Batniji carefully places the incisions above the corners of the mouth to ensure minimal scarring and then lifts the corners.
