The most common tumor of infancy and childhood, a hemangioma is an abnormal build-up of blood vessels occurring in the skin or internal organs. The majority of hemangiomas occur on the face and neck where they may appear as a red or reddish-purple raised lesion on the skin or a large raised tumor with blood vessels. There are several different type of hemangiomas including superficial or strawberry hemangiomas, mixed hemangiomas and others. Many parents choose to have them removed as they can be problematic as well as aesthetically unappealing.
