Forehead/brow lift
As we age, the brow and forehead area may begin to sag, resulting in an older, tired and even angry appearance. The endoscopic forehead lift, also referred to as an endoscopic brow lift, is a surgical procedure which can correct this and restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance to the brow and forehead area. While often performed on its own, the endoscopic browlift can be combined with Botox injections and an upper eyelid lift to dramatically brighten the upper face.
The endoscopic forehead lift is appropriate for healthy men and women who have reasonable expectations for improving a sagging or heavy brow. For some individuals, sagging of the brow can be hereditary.
Dr. Batniji will meet with you during consultation to discuss your concerns and examine your face. There are a variety of minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift techniques and the consultation will allow him to select the best approach to meet your needs. Patients who are concerned with sagging or excess skin of the upper eyelids may be better treated with an upper eyelid lift, while patients with excessive forehead muscle activity may benefit from Botox injections. These procedures can be performed in conjunction with the endoscopic forehead lift.

While surgical times will vary according to each individual patient and the technique used, the endoscopic brow lift generally ranges from one to two hours. Various forms of anesthesia may be used including intravenous sedation with local anesthesia or general anesthesia, particularly in cases where additional procedures are being performed at the same time. The incisions for the endoscopic forehead lift are very small and are well camouflaged within the hairline. Dr. Batniji will then use an endoscope and special instruments to elevate the brow. The brow position can be maintained with a variety of techniques; however, the doctor tends to favor a suture technique. Other surgeons often incise the frown muscles, but Dr. Batniji no longer performs this technique for several reasons. Incising the frown muscle can lead to numbness in the forehead and hairline, the results are generally not long lasting as the muscle fibers can re-connect over time, and lastly muscle work increases operative times and the risk of bruising and swelling. Dr. Batniji prefers to use Botox injections to the frown muscles.
After your surgery, a dressing will be applied to your head and this will be removed on the next day. You can begin to shower the day after surgery. Some swelling and bruising may result and this can be minimized by keeping the head elevated during the first few days. If you experience discomfort, it can be treated with medication. The stitches and staples will be removed one week after your procedure. At this time, you will be shown how to use special make-up to help camouflage any remaining bruising or discoloration. You should be able to return to work after seven to ten days, though it will be three to four weeks before you can resume more strenuous activities.
If sagging in the brow is contributing to hooding of the upper eyelid and subsequent obstruction of vision, the procedure may be covered in part by insurance.
