Question:

I'm African American and my nose is very flat but also very wide. To narrow it, would you remove excess tissue? And could this tissue then be used to build up my nose to make it less flat?

Answer:

The African American nose tends to have a wide nasal base.  One method to narrow the wide nasal base is with nasal base reduction.  This helps address nostril flare.  In an effort to make the nose less flat, I use several techniques, including suturing techniques and grafting techniques.  The grafts I use are cartilage and the source is from the nasal septum.  Occasionally, I may need to use ear cartilage.  If more grafting is needed, I may use rib cartilage.
