Question:

I have a low nasal bridge. I'm Asian. Would this require breaking the nose to fix it?

Answer:

Not necessarily. A low nasal bridge can be augmented with a variety of techniques.  One technique is non-surgical and involves injectable filler, such as hyaluronic acid (Juvederm) or calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse).  A longer lasting procedure is surgical (rhinoplasty) and involves placement of cartilage and/or fascia to augment the dorsum.  That cartilage is obtained from either the ear, the septum or the rib.  The fascia that is obtained is temporalis fascia.  For before and after photos of Dr. Batniji’s Newport Beach rhinoplasty procedure, click here.

Question:

What does "pillow face" mean and how is it prevented?

Answer:

Over time, we lose volume to the face, resulting in older, hollow appearance. One solution is the injection of filler material. If too much filler material is injected, the result can be large, unnatural lips and unnaturally large cheeks. This appearance of "over-injection" of filler material is known as "pillow face". We avoid this appearance by adding volume to volume-deficient areas in a subtle manner, so that you may appear more youthful without looking overdone. Also, we tend to favor the use of hyaluronic acid fillers which are super forgiving as they can be reversed with an enzyme, hyaluronidase.

Question:

How can I get my lips to be thicker and fuller without going overboard and looking like Angelina Jolie?

Answer:

I prefer hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvederm, to provide fuller lips. I agree with your desire to avoid too much augmentation and I prefer using Juvederm to add volume to the lips in a natural to achieve a natural appearance. We use a dental block to minimize discomfort. We also provide ice after the procedure to minimize swelling and bruising.

Question:

What type of injectable filler is most commonly used in the lips?

Answer:

I prefer to use hyaluronic acid filler, such as Juvederm, for the lips. The reason for this is that hyaluronic acid fillers are soft, safe, and very well tolerated in the lips. I combine this with a dental block to make the injection a relatively painless procedure.
